Brass Band Contest 2024

On Friday 24th May Ashton United in the Community hosted the 32nd Annual Hurst Village Whit Friday Band Contest at Hurst Cross. The event was supported with funding from the Granada Foundation for which we are very grateful and also by Ashton United who allowed us to use the football ground as a venue. The night, although it was cold remained dry, was a great success with a total of 32 bands competing and around 400 in attendance throughout the night.

The standard of music on the night was very high and overall honours on the night went to the Fodens Band from Cheshire, there were also prize winning performances from local bands including Mossley Band, Glossop Old Band and Mossley Hollins High School in their respective sections. Thanks must also go to my co-organiser, Cat Tomlisson and our army of volunteers without whom we would not have a contest, not forgetting the lads from Andy’s Man Club who also did a great job on the night.

Planning is already underway for next years event (Friday 13th June 2025) as we strive to make it bigger and better so if you would be interested in coming onboard then please contact Andy Clayton (andyc@ashtonunited.co.uk) or call on 07801 351046.
