Kings Award Presentation Ceremony & Volunteer Recognition Evening

Last Tuesday (29th April) a number of Trustees & Volunteers went to the Greater Manchester Kings Award Presentation Ceremony held at the impressive Gorton Monastery.

Ashton United in the Community along with a further 23 organisations from the Greater Manchester Area received certificates and crystal awards from the Lord Lieutenant of Manchester followed by a buffet lunch.

It was very humbling to be involved in the ceremony and listen to the stories and great work that is taking place in Greater Manchester Area and the scale of the need that exists within the region. Without the hours of work and dedication put in by so many volunteers there would be a huge number of people that would be really struggling from poverty and loneliness.

Once again we have to thank our own volunteers for their time and efforts they put in on a daily basis. Well done to all.

Following on from this on the Friday night (2nd April) we held a Volunteer Recognition evening in the Crossbar at Hurst Cross. The evening was well attended and all the volunteers were presented with individual pin badges to commemorate us winning the Kings Award. We also recognized a number of volunteers for their achievements over the year, particularly Nick Johnston who has completed Levels 1,2, & 3 in First Aid training and Sue Derbyshire who has completed Level 3 in Stewarding and is now going on to do a full SIA course which will hopefully lead to her gaining paid employment as a security officer working bigger events.

Potato pie supper was served and entertainment for the evening was provided by our own “Tony the Crooner”

A great night was had by all.
