Paul Connolly - Matchday 5

This weekend's trip to Whitby Town Football Club saw the fifth installment of our volunteer recognition awards.

A great club with fantastic hospitality, and always a friendly face to chat to around the ground.

One of those was Paul Connolly. After speaking to Ste Shields earlier in the week about the recognition awards we are doing this season, Paul was very highly spoken of, and it was great to hear his story.

A lifelong Whitby fan, he used to come along to games as a kid with his dad, he has been involved at the club for 12 years, after starting selling programmes.

From here he moved on to editing the programmes, before being invited to become a member of the board. It's superb to see someone working their way up through their local club, and for this alone, we applaud you. He was even putting the finishing touches to the Turnbull playing surface when we arrived!

Paul moved out to Gibraltar, but continued editing the programme from afar, once even flying back over to the UK to watch Whitby Town play at (of all places) Hurst Cross, before flying back to Gibraltar again that day.

Whitby Town was his introduction to football, and he prides himself on being not only part of a community club, but in seeing the club and the other people involved in it grow and develop around him.

A true non league volunteer, and hopefully someone that others can look to emulate! All of us here at Ashton United Football Club Ashton United FC Supporters Club and Ashton United in the Community wish you all the very best for the rest of the season, and look forward to seeing you back at Hurst Cross in January.
