Ian - Matchday 7

A trip up the M6 to The Giant Axe Stadium this weekend saw the Robins share the spoils with Lancaster City in our latest NPL outing, and gave us the opportunity to meet Ian. Ian has been a supporter of the Dolly Blues for 62 years, an avid supporter of the club, he hasn’t missed a home league game for 40 years. When asked why he and others get involved and keep coming back, he said “We do it for the love of the club”.

Speaking to Ian at half time, his passion for club was unquestionable. No time for small talk, almost immediately, the topic of conversation was how he was always looking for ideas to improve the supporters club, involve more people in the club and allow them the opportunity to experience the rewards and benefits of supporting a non league club.

He initially got involved helping to run the raffle, and has taken on a few different roles within the club since (something that is inevitably going to happen when you're at almost every game over 4 decades . . . ).

One thing he enjoys most is the banter with his fellow volunteers. Ian one of a group of 5 stalwart supporters and volunteers who have been coming to Lancaster City games since the early 70s.

Everyone at Ashton United Football Club and Ashton United FC Supporters Club would like to congratulate Ian and his fellow volunteers for their years of dedication and service to Lancaster City, and wish them all the very best for the remainder of this season and many more to come.

If you are interested in volunteering at your local club, please get in touch with them, or you can visit the FA website for more information and opportunities.
