Brass Band Contest 2025

Friday 13th June saw our annual Hurst Village Brass Band Contest held at Ashton United Football Club in Hurst Cross.

The weather was kind to us, the sun was out and it was a warm evening which attracted around 400 spectators throughout the night to watch the 31 bands competing for a host of prizes. The evening started in spectacular fashion with a polished performance of their chosen piece “The President”, a performance that would eventually earn the 1 st Prize on the night. Having said that the performances that followed were all high quality and there were a number of bands that pushed Fodens close for the top prize. At the end of the night, our adjudicator, Jack Capstaff commented that it was a really hard job trying to put the bands in the correct order, much harder than in previous years.

Everyone at Ashton United in the Community would like to thank the bands that participated, the local people that supported the event and most of all the army of volunteers that helped make the night such as resounding success and without whom the event would not take place.

Next years event will take place on Friday 29th May and planning is already underway with lots to do so if you would like to get involved please do not hesitate to contact Andy Clayton
(andyc@ashtonunited.co.uk) or Catherine Tomlisson (cat.tomlisson@hotmail.co.uk)
